Career Academies UK charts ‘Routes to Success’ at Liberal Democrat Conference
Tuesday 20 September
A standing room only audience attended the Career Academies UK fringe event ‘Routes to success: improving skills to encourage social mobility’ at the Liberal Democrat conference yesterday. Delegates including Miriam Clegg, the Deputy Prime Minister's wife came to hear Career Academy Graduate, Adam Hopley speak about his pathway to achievement.
The panel of leading politicians and commentators - including Heather McGregor, Director, Taylor Bennett Foundation, Paul Johnson, Director, Institute of Fiscal Studies and Tom Clark, Leader Writer at The Guardian, together with Baroness Sharp, former Liberal Democrat spokesperson on FE and Skills – discussed the importance of effective Further Education, practical experience and good careers guidance in improving the life chances of young people in the UK – one of the least socially mobile societies in the world. A further fringe event with a panel including Skills Minister, John Hayes will take place at Conservative Party Conference in Manchester on 3 October.
