Career Academy students reach for the skies!

Monday 26 September

Three Career Academy students from King Edward VI College in Nuneaton have benefited from a six-week paid internship with Warwickshire and Northamptonshire Air Ambulance Service (WNAA).

WNAA provided Ben, Matt and Jagjeet with the chance to work on high level projects such as producing a newsletter, uploading photograph catalogues and developing databases.

"Matt, Ben and Jag are experiencing life in the full-time workplace for the first time and say they are constantly applying knowledge and academic learning to the tasks they are set," said a spokesperson for WNAA.

"They are experiencing a whole new world as they spend time with pilots, medical staff, air base personnel and business managers."

Ben and Matt said the internship was miles better than they were expecting and were particularly pleased to be given both individual and team tasks to tackle, enabling them to apply a wide range of skills and competences.

Matt Smith said: "This placement has really broadened our view on what charities do. They are very business-like and professional."

Alexandra Pope, HR manager for WNAA, said: "We were delighted to find the students are mature and very capable. They work with minimal supervision and are adding real value by producing excellent work for us."

Di Kendall, director of regions for Career Academies UK, added: "This is a particularly exciting internship as it is a charity supporting another charity and we are exploring new and innovative opportunities.

"We are delighted to be working with Andy Williamson WNAA's chief executive and his team and look forward to and long, successful partnership."
