Career Academies UK attend Conservative Party Conference

Tuesday 11 October

There was an excellent turnout for the Career Academies UK fringe event ‘Routes to success: improving skills to encourage social mobility’ at the Conservative Party Conference in Manchester last week.

The event  was addressed by John Hayes MP, the Minister for Skills, who was joined by Career Academy graduate, Adam Hopley who spoke about his pathway to achievement.

John Hayes emphasised the importance of recognising that there were different routes available to acheive success and highlighted the Government’s focus on expanding apprenticeships. The panel of leading commentators – including Faye Wenman, Trustee, Taylor Bennett Foundation; Andy Westwood, Chief Executive, Guild HE; and Louisa Peacock, Jobs Editor of The Telegraph – discussed the importance of effective Further Education,  practical work experience and quality careers guidance in improving the life chances of young people in the UK – one of the least socially mobile societies in the world.
