Career Academies UK wins Natwest Community Force Award
Thursday 17 February
Career Academies UK has been awarded £6000 from Natwest’s Community Force initiative. The grant will help the organisation to realise its goals in helping to boost social mobility by supporting salaries for its paid internships undertaken by Career Academy students. The funds will be used to support students to undertake internships at non-profit organisations who can often offer a valuable experience, but who do not have the funds to pay a salary to the intern.
The award launched in July this year offers local charities the opportunity to win a grant from the 3m fund to further their work in the community. ‘Community Force areas’ were identified across the country, where up to three organisations were eligible to win an award within each. Over five thousand applications were made, with Career Academies UK winning the award in the City of London Community Force Region. In total there are 474 winners across the UK, and 452, 000 votes were cast nationally.
Chief Executive of Career Academies UK James McCreary comments:
“We are delighted that the fantastic work of Career Academies UK has been recognised with this national award. Paid internships are the ‘jewel in the crown’ of the Career Academy programme, offering young people the chance to really develop their employability prospects to succeed in a competitive environment. With the government announcing plans to encourage businesses to create more paid work experience opportunities for the thousands of young people in the UK who are struggling to get into work, it seems fitting that we should receive this award at a time when it really matters.”
The cheques were presented at tne Natwest branch in Canary Wharf on 2 February. Victoria Sutton and Rhiannon Evans are pictured with the other winning organisations receiving cheques from Mark Telfer, CEO, City of London at Natwest.
