Trek Kilimanjaro for Career Academies UK

Tuesday 6 December

Career Academies UK is proud to announce its first ever charity fund raising event in celebration of our ten year anniversary. To mark this fantastic milestone, we are encouraging our supporters to raise their own aspirations and attempt the world highest free standing volcano, whilst raising valuable funds to further support our work with 16 to 19 year olds. All funds raised will directly contribute to our work with young people and allow us to further develop and diversify student specific projects.

Kilimanjaro is one of Africa’s most magnificent sights, and at 5985 metres it’s the continent’s highest peak - Kibo, which is the central crater, resting on its two sisters’ volcanoes Mawenzi and Shira. It is the tallest freestanding volcano in the world.

Trekkers will be ascending by the Marangu Route, which rises from the Tanzanian side. This is the most popular and the safest route with well-maintained paths and huts. The Marangu trail does not require any technical climbing and although challenging, any moderately fit person who has followed a sensible training programme has a good chance of reaching the summit given the extra acclimatisation day at Horombo Hut.

From cultivated farmlands on the lower levels, our route takes us through lush fauna filled jungle, alpine meadow and finally across a barren lunar landscape to the summit of Kibo, which, despite its position on the Equator, is permanently covered in snow.

Why not have a go?

The 10 day trek will take place on the 18 to 27 October 2012. If you would like to register to take part or simply support by fundraising or hosting an event, please do not hesitate to contact us. The trip will be organised by Career Academies UK in conjunction with The Ultimate Travel Company. The registration fee will be £350 and a recommended minimum sponsorship of £3,800.
