North Oxfordshire Academy gets off to a flying start
Wednesday 25 November

Career Academies UK’s significant expertise lies in training schools and colleges to forge their own relationships with employers and manage their own Career Academy programme. The programme launched on 25 November, at North Oxfordshire Academy in Banbury, led by Career Academy Coordinator Sophie Kilmister.
Sophie said “We are delighted to be introducing the Career Academy here at North Oxfordshire Academy. I have worked with Career Academies UK for a number of years now and have personally witnessed the difference it can make to the aspirations and attitudes of young people.”
Career Academies UK will work with North Oxfordshire Academy over the coming months to grow and develop their already established Local Advisory Board and to to secure workplace visits and experiences for students, linking up with both local and national employers, including Lloyds TSB, Callebaut and Norbar.
North Oxfordshire Academy students will have the opportunity to study the equivalent of three A-Levels and benefit from one-to-one business mentoring and a six-week internship over the summer as part of the Career Academy programme. Representatives from supporting companies will also regularly visit the Academy to share their experiences.
The launch, which took place at the Academy was attended by supporting employers, including Savills, Seimens, Wesleyan Assurance and Cherwell District Council. There were presentations from existing Career Academy supporters, employers and also from Career Academy students from Shelfield Community Academy in Walsall. Career Academies UK wish the first 11 students well in their quest to become the country's next crop of business leaders.
