Poole High School Career Academy students take part in BASE (Business, Accounting, Skills, Education) National Business Game

Tuesday 30 March

On 4 March five students from Poole High School’s Finance Academy visited Bournemouth University to take part in the BASE Game, where school teams from across the Dorset and Hampshire region adopt the role of a chartered accountant for the afternoon in a Dragon’s Den style event. Given a pack of information consisting of financial statements, background info and three different franchise case studies, students had to select the franchise they thought was the best choice for their client to invest in. They then had to deliver their findings and final decision back to a panel of ICAEW (Institution of Chartered Accountants in England and Wales) members and employer representatives via a five minute presentation. Local employers such as Ernst and Young and Lloyds were also present to discuss careers and further education opportunities with the students.

Poole High School’s team performed magnificently and came second in the competition overall, developing excellent employability skills and helping them gain a better understanding of the business environment. Well done to all!!
