Richard Huish Career Academy wins seal of approval

Thursday 8 April

The Richard Huish College Career Academy of Accounting, Business and Finance has been awarded the prestigious prize of the best ‘Education Business Link Project – Post 16 Award,’ in the 2010 Somerset Education Business Awards. These awards celebrate successful partnerships between education and business which foster and develop students employability skills and understanding of the world of work.

The Richard Huish College Career Academy entry, told the story of their Career Academy's progress through the 'Year of Planning', the formation of the Local Advisory Board, securing additional employer support, the recruitment and selection of students and the implementation of the programme of Career Academy activities.

Five of the current Career Academy students, together with Career Academy personnel, Local Advisory Board members, College Principal and the Chair of Governors, attended an evening ceremony hosted by WPA (Western Provident Association) to collect the award alongside 19 other successful category winners.  The keynote speaker for the evening was Andrew Smith, Manufacturing Manager of Numatic International (home of Henry vacuum cleaners) who he provided a thoughtful and inspiring insight into valuable lessons he had learnt along his career path.
