Career Academy students win entrepreneurs' competition!
Thursday 15 April

On Wednesday 14 April, the final of the TiE Young Entrepreneurs programme organised by TiE UK (www.tie-uk.org) was held at Microsoft's offices in Victoria, London. The aim of the programme was to inspire students to become entrepreneurs by engaging with established industry leaders to foster innovation, leadership skills, creativity and self confidence.
The programme was open to sixth form students in London. Twenty students were selected to participate in the programme and five of these were Career Academy students from Christ the King Sixth Form College in Lewisham and Sacred Heart of Mary Girls' School in Havering. The programme started in September 2009 and consisted of three months of classroom sessions and three months of workshops, all hosted by Microsoft.
The classroom sessions included presentations from successful entrepreneurs and interactive discussions on business related topics. The workshops were designed to help students become aware of the aspects of operating a business.
The students worked in teams to generate business ideas. Each team was assigned a mentor who guided them in developing their ideas into a viable business plan. The students presented their business plans to a panel of judges consisting of established Venture Capitalists and Entrepreneurs.
The winning team was Spice which contained three students from Sacred Heart of Mary's Girls School. The team was complimented by the judges for their enthusiasm for their business and their team work. The team will now compete via video conference in the TiE Global competition, hosted by MIT. The three other finalists are from TiE chapters in the United States of America.
