Students attend business meeting at Accenture

Monday 15 February

On Friday 12 February the second year Career Academy students  from All Hallows Catholic College, were invited to a Accenture, based at Manchester Airport, along with a school from Ashton who also run the Career Academy programme.

Accenture offers a management consultancy service to other businesses so that they can improve their current strategies and therefore achieve a higher performance. On arrival, we were welcomed with refreshments and then seated around a board table in a conference room.

The first part of the day consisted of a presentation informing us about the different processes within the business and then we were given individual tasks to carry out. The first activity was to choose a department within a supermarket and explain different ways of how we could improve sales. There was only one certain answer - impulse buying! Another task asked us to discuss ways in which a petrol station may suffer and to consider ways this petrol station could increase sales. This was to test our business knowledge. This was really useful to our group as we were able to apply the knowledge we have gained in class to a real life situation and achieve good results.

The second part of the day required us to deliver a presentation and use a case study as if we worked for Accenture. We were given a business to study and we were supplied with various pieces of information about that organisation.  The presentation had to be written to inform the business how they could improve their sales and gain better knowledge of their market. The winning team received mugs and pens and due to our brilliant business knowledge - the winning team came from All Hallows Catholic College!  The presentations were really enjoyable to listen to.  All in all we had an extremely informative and humorous day!
