Dr Heather McGregor announces new Chair of Career Academies UK – Tuesday 13 January
Dr Heather McGregor has announced today that she will be stepping down as Chair of Career Academies UK (soon to be Career Ready), after five years in the position, and handing over to Jeremy Palmer, current Trustee.
Career Academy Fife launch success – Friday 9 January
In December, a very successful breakfast event to engage local businesses was held at Auchmuty High School to launch the Career Academy (soon to be Career Ready) partnership in Fife which is led by Diageo with Fife Council and Fife Chamber of Commerce.

Wester Hailes students promote programme to high-profile audiences – Monday 1 December
First year Career Academy students from Wester Hailes Education Centre, Edinburgh were given the opportunity to deliver presentations to Alan Milburn, Labour party politician and ex-MP, and a group of distinguished partner agencies as part of the Commission on Social Mobility and Child Poverty. The students discussed their experiences on the Career Academy programme, including how they feel it has benefited them.

Aida Mugabo was studying business and management at John Ruskin College when she applied to be part of the Career Academy programme, “I thought the programme was very well rounded which I thought would make me better professionally and individually.”
Let’s Do Business roadshows to launch in Liverpool – Monday 17 November
Career Academies UK has partnered with the National Careers Service to launch a series of roadshows called Let’s Do Business, with the first event scheduled for Thursday 15 January 2015 at Merseytravel in Liverpool. The events will provide an opportunity for schools to meet with employers in the city who are keen to engage with them and their students.
Case Study - Joanne Nazareno – Friday 14 November
Joanne Nazareno is a Career Academy student at Kincorth Academy in Aberdeen. During the summer of 2014 Joanne completed an internship with Petrofac, a major supporter of Career Academies UK in North East Scotland. Here she tells about the impact the internship has had on her.
Case Study – Charlie Denham – Thursday 13 November
Charlie Denham works in the legal team at Petrofac and has been volunteering with Career Academies UK as a mentor for just over a year. He says the reason why he became a mentor in the Career Academy programme was because it was exactly the type of programme that he believes he would have benefitted from whilst at school: “Unfortunately no such programme was available to me at the time. I’m therefore delighted to be able to help somebody make the most of the opportunities in front of them.”

Chikumo Fiseko graduated from the Career Academy programme at Longley Park Sixth Form College in 2013. She is now studying Business and Enterprise Management at Sheffield Hallam University, while also running two businesses – Mostly Muffins and Tiger J Chocolates.

Holly Ireland from Burnley in Lancashire always thought she would follow in her mother’s footsteps as a make-up artist so she was as surprised as anyone when she realised her real interest lay with engineering.

During her time on the Career Academy programme Lauren attended a number of work experience days, organised by her mentor at local engineering companies, offering her a taste of what it is like to work as a Chemical Engineer; a career that Lauren is now set on pursuing. Lauren believes that thanks to the Career Academies masterclasses and her involvement with her mentor, she is now focused on a career within engineering.

Innovative careers programme inspires more young people to consider job in engineering – Monday 3 November
The Engineering Expressway programme, run at Redcar & Cleveland College in North Yorkshire, is successfully inspiring 14 to 16 years old students to get on the right path for a future career in engineering. The first cohort of students has now graduated from the programme and all are now starting engineering apprenticeships, continuing with the BTEC Level 3 course or progressing to A-Levels.

Spotlight: Karl Richardson – Tuesday 30 September
Karl Richardson is 19 years old and a graduate of the Career Academy programme at St Chad's Catholic and Church of England High School in Cheshire. He chose the increasingly popular avenue of ‘earning as you learn’ and went on to do a Year in Industry with Sci-Tech Daresbury Laboratory after he graduated from school.

Mentor of the Year Award piloted in London – Thursday 31 July
A new Mentor of the Year award, to be piloted in London and the South East this year, was announced at a networking event for mentors and students hosted by Freshfields law firm on 3 July.
